About Counting Stitches
Cross stitch and all counted embroidery has been a passion of mine since I first picked up a needle as a child. It is a beautiful art form and so much fun to do.
I have always dreamed of starting a site offering finished pieces for people to enjoy and charts or kits for people to create their own pieces. But with the responsibilities of life, children, work, and now grandchildren, it seemed out of reach and a lot of time and work to fulfill the dream. But then .....
I like to attend estate sales and there was this one sale where I found 6 boxes of beautifully stitched pieces. There were 50 or more pieces in each box and I could tell they were all stitched by the same person. She signed some of them, Violet. All these beautiful pieces had to be Violet's life work. I had to have them all. She must have just finished each piece, put it in the box and started the next one. And so on and so forth and now here they all were still in the boxes. I had to do something. Maybe she had dreamed of someday having the time to frame them or give them as gifts or, or, or, but here they are still in the boxes and Violet is not here. I purchased every piece! I couldn't leave any of them just sitting in the boxes.
I don't know Violet, we have never met, but she inspired Counting Stitches. She gave me the inspiration I needed to fulfill my dream. So I search for pieces all over and make sure all the hours of work are honored by finding new homes for these pieces of art. Some of Violet's pieces are offered on this site along with many other stitchers. I always let you know their first names in the listings if I know that information.
So, please browse the shop and appreciate the art. Check out the Gallery pages where I have so many photographs of past and present pieces. You will also find pieces I have finished offered from time to time.
